If you were here last year at this time, you know I shared a cute rustic heart garland. I made it out of the same materials that I made the Santa Garland from at Christmas time. I wanted to make another little craft project but I wanted to try my hand at clay. Because I have a few other projects I want to make from clay so I thought this would be the perfect time to practice. Today, I bring you stamped clay heart ornaments.
Stamped Clay Heart Ornaments
These stamped clay heart ornaments were a very quick easy project. I’m truly not really into crafting anymore … especially LONG projects. I get too distracted. BUT, I do like quick easy projects that take little to no effort. π I think you could use really any type of clay that can be painted when dried. This air dry clay is just what I grabbed because I didn’t know how much I would need. And, since I have a few other things I want to make, I wanted extra. But… I literally felt like I was making cut out Valentine’s Day cookies. π
I took a wad of clay and rolled it out with one of my MANY rolling pins. And, then used a heart cookie cutter to cut out the hearts. Now is the fun part. I used a stamp to make random designs in my hearts because I wanted them to appear lacy. You could totally use anything you want… leaves, old lace, really anything with a pattern. Or you could leave them plain. I used a straw to make a hole and then let them air dry for about a day and a half.
Once dry…
I painted all of them white. And, then I coated them with stain and wiped it off. Using the stain, made the details of my stamping show a lot better.
TIP: Make sure to make them a little thicker. The thinner ones broke when I was messing with them.
I ended up adding a white cotton string and using them as little ornaments on my little cedar tree that I leave up all year. I think they added so much to this tree and will be so cute for Valentine’s Day. The options are endless for little ornaments and the holidays.
It was a fun little project and like I said, took very little time. These would make a darling garland, too. Let me know what you think. And stay tuned for another fun QUICK (accent on quick) craft project with more of this clay.
