I love antiques and vintage decor. You’re shocked, I’m sure. 🤣 I started collecting antique furniture and vintage trinkets (as Deb calls them) clear back in my late teens and early 20s. Back then… in the olden days… antiques were so inexpensive. Everyone wanted new items. In fact, my grandma who was in her late 70s at the time said, “Why do you like that old stuff? I grew up with all of that and I want nothing to do with it.” If I paid more than $10 for a piece of furniture, it had to be something really special.
Before I knew it, my collections began. I would replace newer items in my house with older items as I found them. I then became obsessed with repurposing vintage items into different types of uses around the house. Because I wanted everything to be old.
Decorating with Vintage Items in the Master Bedroom
First off, my plan when designing the remodel of this home was to have all of the lighting be vintage. Because vintage chandeliers are something I never tire of. We already had a few chandeliers that we’ve toted around with us for years. The one above our breakfast table has hung in SIX different homes. 😆 But I still needed SEVERAL more for the entire house. So, I scoured the Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, and Ebay for vintage brass crystal chandeliers and constantly kept my eyes peeled . The master bedroom alone needed three. I was a bit stressed trying to figure out how I would find at least TWO that matched and decided it was impossible. Sooooo I decided to keep them all very different. I thought it would bother me but I actually love it, since they are all similar.

We actually used to have an antique bed but I really don’t know what happened to that. 🤔 We may have sold it… Our headboard right now happens to be old shutters off of a barn. We found them at the Springfield, Ohio, Extravaganza Flea Market this past Fall.
One of my favorite things to do is hang stained glass windows directly inside our actual windows and use them for privacy. We’ve had these two matching windows for over ten years. They, too, have been hauled around to the last several homes. 🙈 They work perfectly. I think we found them at a flea market for some ridiculously low amount.. $20…. maybe.

I love vintage benches and stools. This is another one of my obsessions. I actually have quite a few but who’s counting. When I see them for a great price, I always buy them. They are perfect to tuck really any place. I love this little stool in front of our chippy church window turned leaning mirror to give it a little bit of interest and depth. I topped it with a vintage ironstone pitcher filled with flowers and displayed all of my ironstone chamber pots on my dresser, which also make cute planters.

Old columns are another thing I have several of. They are perfect to add height to different areas of the house. I like to add plants to the top, or different textural pieces. This pineappley thingamabob is something I found on the Facebook garage sales. I whitewashed it to match my style and like it on top of this column. Oh…. And THIS COLUMN. This column was found in an attic of an old house that was being torn down. Apparently, the company that made these for the house sent an extra one and they didn’t use it. It was in the attic of that house until they tore it down. It was actually still in the original wrapping when we found it at a flea market. This is the original patina on it too.

Where did you get the Serenity sign?
Danelle Harvey says
I made it from an old frame. If you are interested, I can get you to the girl who sent me the letters. You tell her what size the sign is and what you want the wording to say. She plugs it into the computer and cuts out all of the letters. This is my favorite sign.

Danelle your bedroom is gorgeous! I’m a newbie to your account, but now you & Deb are my favorites! If I’m feeling down I just watch your stories and laugh. I love you guys!! I also have a collection of ironstone chamber pots. My 3 yr old grand daughter loves them. One night when my DIL was cooking dinner my grand daughter ask if she was cooking spaghetti in a chamber pot. Haha I had explained the real purpose of the pits but she got confused 😂

Simply beautiful. My friends call me an old soul because of my love for “old stuff”, and they just don’t get why I decorate with old, chippy worn items.

Where did you get the slip covers for your wing back chairs? They fit so perfect. Also what do they look like underneath?! They are probably my favorite part of your home because it seems like you spend a lot of time there.
